After suddenly finding himself “retired” from life at sea in September of 2006, J. B. Owen decided it was time to get back to not only what he loved, but what he knew God was leading him towards. A short search placed him back with some old friends he had sung with before; Mike Harshbarger and Susan Tippens, and a cousin, Susan Ridings. The four met in February 2007 to explore the possibilities of forming a new singing group. During the initial discussion, the topic of a group name came up and several names were tossed about but none seemed to have quiet the right “ring”. Since all four members had a physical problem (hearing, spinal, joint, and cardiac) the comment “We’re just a bunch of broken wings” was made. The name Broken Wings had the ring they were looking for and a new quartet was born.
Since that first meeting the group has undergone a few changes and set-backs, but with the addition of Dave Knappenburger singing tenor, has emerged stronger and better than ever.

From the onset, the group was formed for one purpose: to share the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ through song. The musical style defies definition. The tight four-part harmonies and vocal blend along with the uniquely different vocal styling’s make this a “must-hear” group. Singing accapella, accompanied by pre-recorded tracks, with live piano, or all three combined, they bring a fresh new sound to every song they sing. Their repertoire ranges from old school convention style southern gospel music right up to the latest songs heard today.
Available for any occasion, function or event (especially events where food is involved), Broken Wings is a welcome choice. No charge is ever made for their performances. However, love offerings are accepted.

Although there are no recordings available at present, an album project is in the planning stages. To sing whenever, wherever and to whomever is the long term goal of the group. God has had his hand on this project from day one and we will continue to follow the path He has laid out for us.
